Yes, we realize that we haven’t even turned the calendar page from September to October, but over at R&M Farm, it’s time to talk turkey. Thanksgiving turkey, that is. Ryan’s pastured turkeys are sold in 2lb increments, ranging from 10 to 24 pounds. You can reserve your bird by filling out a form at their tent, or you can call/text Ryan at (973) 903-8546. If a whole turkey is simply too much (is there such a thing?), you can purchase breasts (boneless or bone-in), or bone-in thighs and drumsticks. Ryan suggests ordering as soon as you know what you’ll need. He doesn’t have a strict deadline, but, from experience, his birds sell-out quickly!
Want to do a trial run before Thanksgiving? Try this Spiced Turkey Breast with Balsamic Grilled Peaches, with the last of the season’s peaches.
Feeling chilled? Haluski, a buttery cabbage with noodles, is perfect, heart-warming comfort food. You’ll find your choice of cabbages at your favorite farm tent and you can choose your preferred pasta shape from La Trafila. A simple and yummy market-forward meal!
We’re thrilled to announce the addition of new vendor Maplebrook Farm Creamery! Hailing from Bennington, Vermont, Maplebrook handmakes small-batch, 100% Vermont milk cheeses such as burrata, ricotta, smoked ricotta, ciliegine, and more. Please give them a warm Chappaqua welcome! Find most of what you’ll need at the market for this Zucchini Scamorza Focaccia. Don’t feel like making your own focaccia? This recipe could easily be adapted with a pizza crust from Wave Hill Bread.
Orchard Hill Organics is hoping to bring pawpaws to the market. Farmer Jeff reports that they've been this close to ripe for the past two weeks. Fingers crossed! While we wait for those pawpaws, you’ll find lovely Asian pears at their tent. High in fiber, with a good amount of Vitamin C, VItamin K, Potassium, and immune-supporting copper, these beauties also help control blood sugar and are high in antioxidants. They’ll continue to ripen once picked, so store in the fridge until you’re ready to eat them. Grab yourself enough to eat out of hand on the spot and also bring some home to make this Quick Poached Asian Pear dish. You’ll be so glad you did!
Orchard Hillis also bringingLi Ren Choi bok choy which farmer Jeff Rowe describes as “super tender and super flavorful.” This choy is harvested and sold by weight (not bunches!) in very small palm size heads. An absolute must for bok choy lovers!
Urban Bohemia will be bringing autumn-inspired soups such as Sweet Potato Soup and Pumpkin Soup. Everything they offer is organic and plant based/vegan. Their Soba Noodle Salad is a market favorite!
Dough Nation Food Truck is back, bringing their wood-fired deliciousness! Perry Bindelglass, of PB Hot Sauce, swears by a Dough Nation pizza liberally sprinkled with his hot sauce. Empabake Empanadas will offer (always) baked empanadas stuffed with such treasures as ropa vieja, sweet plantains, chicken, spinach, potatoes, cheese and guava, and so much more!
Music is by Jon Cobert; pick up your favorite coffee from Cano Coffee or cold-pressed juice from Fairy Juice Bar and enjoy the show!
Finally, a huge and hearty thanks to all of you who braved last weekend’s wet weather to shop the market. We, and all our vendors, are very grateful for your support!
