Of course, rhubarb and strawberry go together like Hepburn and Tracy, so make sure to pick up some rhubarb, too. If you’re thinking about learning how to make pie from scratch, this is the time to do it. Strawberries cozying up to rhubarb are so forgiving as a pie filling: Their union makes everyone happy.
If pie is not in your wheelhouse, go ahead and roast that rhubarb to dollop onto some yogurt (available at Le Roux Trading Co., Sugar Shack Creamery, and White Moustache). Add honey from Goode & Localwhile you’re picking up some of their brats to throw on the grill that didn’t get much use last weekend. Sigh. Hopefully you make up for it in spades this weekend, which promises to be gorgeous.
Maybe this week you learn to grill a whole fish. Serve it with grilled asparagus and potatoes and you’ve got a dinner party raring to go.
If you’ve been eyeing those black radishes at the Obercreek Tent but wondering what to do with them, consider making these black radish chips to dip into some Mediterranean spreads from Bonnes Saveurs or seasonal Ayurvedic hummus from Aya Hummus.
Make sure you pick up a crisp baguette or a Miche loaf fromL’Imprimerie this week to try with some Nimbus cheese from Le Roux Trading Co.’s new dairy fridge. You’ll also find buttermilk there, should you be inspired to make Martha’s famously fluffy buttermilk pancakeswith fresh strawberries this weekend. Remember, Maplebrook Creameryhas the best Vermont maple syrup.
And you’re in luck! Not only is the Taco Project food truck joining us this weekend, but Anthony Gizzo of Shuck NY has a free Saturday, and has asked to join the party as well. Wellfleets and Blue Points shucked to order on a sunny day at the market? Now that’s what I call a summer kickoff.See you at the market!
