Take for example this cumin plum compote which will take sweet and juicy market plums on a spicy turn. Just the thing to mix into some Persian plain yogurt from White Moustache or to eat with a wedge of your favorite Second Mouse cheese and some pumpernickel rye from Bien Cuit Bakery. Or to serve with soft chèvre from Sugar Shack Creamery, here again this week with their creamy goat milk and other goat milk products. (Did you know that they separate their male goats from their female goats which is why their sweet and creamy goat milk has none of the gamey flavor sometimes associated with goat milk?).
Or, continuing on the cumin and plum combination, use fresh feta cheese from Maplebrook Creamery (or Sugar Shack, if you lean goat) to make this plum and feta salad.
Raspberries and pork chops? You betcha! Try this tantalizing grilled pork chop with spicy raspberry chimichurri recipe. Letterbox Farm and R&M Farm both have thick chops on offer among other pastured meats to kiss your grill. Yes, you’re used to eating blueberries in your granola, but since cucumbers and blueberries hit the market bins at the same time, consider making this refreshing and hyper-seasonal blueberry summer salad.
And if you must veer sweet with your blueberries this week...by all means make these blueberry cheesecake bars. They’ll be the star of the picnic. Don’t forget the Mason jar (or two) of Manor Sangria’s Summer Blend.
Should you decide to picnic at the market, The Fearless Cook food truck is back with their soups, cold-noodle dishes and salads sourced from local farms, as in their delicious carrot and beet salad. They are now serving hashed brown potatoes with their famous buttermilk cheese and egg biscuits. And this week you can look for a Japanese Cabbage Pancake special, known as okonomiyaki.
See you at the market!
