Peppers and Blondies at the Market

Fort Hill Farm and Black Creek Farm will both  be packing lots of peppers this week, orange, red, purple, hot and sweet and everything in between.

Why not treat yourself to a T-bone or ribeye steak from Premier Pastures to serve with peperonata as in this recipe from Bon Appetit.

My favorite thing to do with the crazy variety of late summer/early fall peppers is to simply slow roast them with some olive oil, fresh thyme and scattered slivers of garlic. Since the peppers come in all different sizes, I cut them up in equal size pieces so they cook evently. Roast them at a low heat for longer than you think so they caramelize and become silky.

Serve them alongside a perfectly grilled hunk of halibut, atop a pillow of creamy polenta, in a grain bowl, or tucked into an omelet made with market eggs. Or, you can do as David Tanis does and make roasted pepper tartine. The perfect lunch or light dinner with a clutch of greens from Letterbox Farm or Growing Hearts Farm. And, of course, all of our bread vendors have just the right bread to make this dish.

AYA Hummus is back with her healthy line of legume and vegetable spreads. Nice to have around the house as a righteous late-afternoon snack after hours of Zoom-ing.

There's a new blondie in town! A warm welcome to our newest vendor, Auzerais Bellamy who is the founder of Blondery, a new virtual bakery. A Master pastry chef whose talent was on stage at some of the finest kitchens in the world (including Per Se, French Laundry, and Daniel), Auzerais struck out on her own this spring to grace us with the most delectable bite-size blondies we have ever tasted. She's making her first visit this Saturday with blondies in 5 flavors: pecan & salted caramel, Brooklyn blackout, cinnamon sugar, birthday cake, and seasonal pumpkin spice. Please extend a warm Chappaqua welcome this Saturday.

And, finally, the Chamber of Commerce and CRE are bringing a guest vendor this Saturday. RaaSa Restaurant in Elmsford, specializing in traditional Indian dishes with a modern twist, will be selling their most popular dishes for carry-out OUTSIDE the market plaza.

See you at the Market!
