Paws Paws and a petting zoo at the market

At this writing, it appears that we'll have drizzly skies in Chappaqua this Saturday. But we never let a little rain stop us! Our farmers are harvesting, bakers are baking, and makers are making, so put on your wellies, pack your umbrella, and come and join us!

Our friends at Obercreek Farm note that bok choy loves the cool weather we’ve been having and is perfectly sized-up now. This week’s bout of warmer weather has me craving a simple bok choy stir fry. Come next week, when the temperatures drop again, you may try your hand at this homemade ramen; you can get the mushrooms, bok choy, scallions, onion, and eggs at the market! Talk about one-stop comfort food shopping.

Urban Bohemia was devastated to miss last week’s market due to flooding caused by the unrelenting rain. They’re really looking forward to joining us on Saturday with their excellent vegan cuisine including comforting soups in fall-forward flavors like Pumpkin, hearty Tomato, and Pasta Fagioli. They've also got amazing lasagna and much more.

Have you seen the collection of colorful carrots at Fresh Meadow Farm? Not only do they provide an array of gorgeous fall hues, they roast up beautifully in this Sweet and Smoky Carrot dish. You can pick up the honey you’ll need from Hudson River Apiaries.

Did you happen to catch the recent New York Times article on the “Pawpaw King of Brooklyn?” Well, if he’s the King, our friends at Orchard Hill Organics are surely in the running for his court! Yes, the tempting pawpaws farmer Jeff has been promising are finally ready. The pawpaw, fruit of the deciduous tree native to the eastern United States and Canada, is large and ranges in shades from yellowish-green to brown. Often referred to as North America’s tropical fruit, it has a flavor reminiscent of mango, banana, and tangy passionfruit. Treat your family to this fun Pawpaw Pudding, it’s as much fun to say as it is to eat! Warning: their pawpaw crop is still on the small side, so come to the market early to grab yours!

Not in a cooking mood? Grab-and-go food will be available from Spain at Home and Empabakes Empanadas. Hosting a gathering? Rumor has it The Spirits Lab’s Paper Airplane (a pre-made cocktail combining Bulls Head bourbon, amaro, and lemon juice), is a real crowd pleaser!

Aly’s Barnyard Friends, sponsored by Sari Shaw at COMPASS, will join us from 9am – 10:30am, rain or shine! They will be bringing chickens, ducks, bunnies, a lamb, baby goats, and a miniature donkey.

See you at the market!
