Communit Day

ree

Saturday’s market is going to be a doozy! We’ve got so many wonderful vendors plus a celebration of your New Castle community, brought to you by the Rotary Club and the Town of New Castle. Community Day is a time-honored and beloved gathering with entertainment, food and refreshments, rides for kids, music, informational booths for community organizations, vendors, service providers, volunteer corps, religious groups, and much more. Please note, to accommodate all the activity, we’ve shifted the market slightly (to the adjacent bay). Come down early, there's going to be a lot to see and do (and eat)!

Obercreek Farm will have shishito peppers! Tired of roasting or blistering your peppers? Try this recipe for slightly decadent creamed shishitos, in which shishitos, shallots, and garlic cook down with heavy cream to a saucy consistency, with the cream picking up just the right amount of subtle heat from the peppers. Add grated parmesan and a pinch of nutmeg and you’ve got a perfect pairing for a grilled steak from R&M Farm, a pizza topping, or a taco filling. Make extra to ladle onto your favorite La Trafila pasta, too.

Stop by Fresh Meadow Farm’s tent to pick up sweet and crispy muir lettuce, packed with vitamins and antioxidants, perfect to layer on lunch box sandwiches or to start a salad dowsed with Garlic Scape Vinaigrette from Channery Hill Farm. We’re happy to report that the grape game is very strong at Caradonna Farms; they’ve got red Venessa as well as early purple concords and seedless concords. If you’re in the mood for savory, try this side of roasted grapes with balsamic and thyme for a change of pace. Of course, nothing beats strolling the market, popping grapes in your mouth as you shop!

Wendy Enoch returns, with her pleasing hand-turned creations; think beautifully functional pieces such as mugs, sponge cups, garlic keepers and more. La Petite Occasion is back after a brief summer hiatus, huzzah! While their seasonal cider caramels take center stage, they'll also offer mouth-watering vanilla and chocolate caramels. Norwegian Baked joins us, too, with traditional Knekkebrod, naturally wheat-free and vegan-friendly. Start your charcuterie board with crispbreads sprinkled with sea salt or flavored with rosemary and lemon. Add a wheel of pecuri in i Vigne from Second Mouse Cheese, sliced half sour pickles from Doc Pickle, and some air-fried broccoli or okra from Kariba Farms. You might not need dinner!

Ready, Set, Sharp! Knife Sharpener will be ready to hone the edges of your knives, scissors, etc. Drop them with Matt and he’ll sharpen while you shop.PSA: make plans now to be around for the September 20th market, too, when we'll have a grand party for the Chappaqua Farmers Market 15th anniversary.

See you at the market!
