By the time Saturday morning rolls along, it will officially be summer on the calendar.
And arugula and summer squash are landing in the bins, as if on cue!
This week we are thrilled to see arugula and summer squash at the market, as if on cue! And lots and lots of garlic scapes, too.
Be sure to make this lemon zucchini pasta with the first zucchini of the season. You can find everything you need for this recipe, including the La Trafila pasta, at the market, except the lemons. Throw as many herbs as you want at this dish. They’re plentiful right now and add so much flavor snipped directly into your serving bowl.
Obercreek Farm will have both their arugula and their HOT SHOT spicy salad mix which is oh-so-popular. Why not make this arugula salad with the sweet, sweet carrots just plucked from the field, walnuts and Parmesan cheese. The tarragon here really makes this salad sing.
Orchard Hill Organics has some lovely cabbage right now, so why not get some plump chicken thighs from R&M Farm or Letterbox Farm, to make this light and breezy ginger chicken with crisp cabbage salad.
Plantidote Foods is back on the plaza with their delicious plant-based patties like cashew garlic, ginger-lime and curry. So good and so good for you. Especially with a dollop of Emmaline’s hot sauce on top, or Persian White Moustache yogurt on top.
We are thrilled to welcome a new vendor to the plaza this week: Sugar Shack Creamery. They are a goat-milk creamery AND also produce maple syrup as their name suggests, but their maple products won’t be ready until the fall. Until then, you can expect creamy and naturally sweet goat milk and goat-milk yogurt, drinkable yogurts (their maple flavored drinkable yogurt knocked my proverbial socks off) and spreadable chèvre cheese. We’re so excited to have them here.
I talked to Capt. Rick of Pura Vida Fishery, while he was at sea this week and he was catching lots of squid in the Hampton Bays. I can’t wait to make this easy recipe which really brings out the sweetness of these mollusks.
Mayfield Farms Bakery is back with their gluten-free offerings like maple-pecan coffee cake and olive oil citrus cake.
See you at the market!
